Intervals

Learn the fundamental building blocks of music on the fretboard.

Intervals are the bricks in the foundation of music. They may be the smallest possible chunks of musical study. Intervals are responsible for the way music sounds, and how it makes us feel. Each interval has its own unique character. Each has a crucial role to play. These lessons provide a character study of each interval, and show how to find the interval shapes on the fretboard.

Intervals describe the difference in pitch between two notes. One note by itself has no meaning. But two notes can evoke feelings, based on their relationship to each other. This relationship is called an interval.

There are twelve simple intervals in Western music (intervals less than an octave), and each one has its own unique character and evokes different feelings.
